Muhammad Azizul Hoque, PhD, is a professor in the Department of English Language & Literature at International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC). In addition, he serves as the Director of the Center for Research and Publication (CRP) at IIUC. His teaching interests include Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Psychology of Language Learning, English for Professional Purposes, English Language Teaching (ELT), Spoken English and Phonetics, Basic Writing, Academic Writing, English Romantic Poetry, and 17th-century Literature. He has also served as a research fellow at the CRP at IIUC. Additionally, he works as an expert/contract linguist for the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) in Switzerland. His professional experience encompasses journal editing and peer reviewing. He co-supervises PhD research, reviews doctoral proposals and Q1 journal articles, and assesses books for Palgrave Macmillan. For numerous journals, he serves as an utive editor, assistant editor, and member of the editorial board. He has authored numerous journal articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings on topics such as the status & recognition of Chittagonian, English borrowings into Bangla, English language policy, phonological challenges of Bangladeshi learners of English, errors and mistakes of graduating students, Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) in Bangladesh, first language (L1) interference, and the user experience of ChatGPT. Additionally, he co-compiled the Chatgaiya Dictionary for Non-Chatgaiyas and has translated two books.
